Result: Loss
This is an 8* play on the OVER between SDSU and New Mexico.

These are two teams which are known for their offensive prowess, however that's not been the case so far this year. That said, I do think the conditions are finally right for a higher-scoring affair. SDSU is coming off its first conference loss of the season at Fresno State last week, freshman QB Nick Bawden made his debut on Friday and was a little shaky out of the gaate, throwing for 84 yards and one TD (also two picks). Bawden though should feel a lot more comfortable this week and I expect to see a marked improvement in the gun-slingers game. The Lobos will also be anxious to hit the field today, New Mexico features a potent triple option offense which averages 400 yards per game, including 320 on the ground (which ranks it fifth in the Nation). The Lobos feature a dual QB system which consists of Lamar Jordan and Cole Gautsche; between them, they have just 45 pass attempts on the season. SDSU also features a strong running game and I think both team's will have plenty of opportunity to put some points on the board today. Bawden will once again be leaning heavily on RB Donnel Pumphrey, but look for the SDSU coaching staff to take the leash off the playbook for their young pivot today. Bawden is very strong and has a cannon for an arm; note that that does not bode well for the Lobos who give up more than 500 yards of offense per game. The Lobos can expect equal opportunities today as SDSU's defense has looked very bad at times this year, missing key tackles, the home side is poised to have a big night with its triple option attack. Note that SDSU has seen the total go OVER the number in its last three games following a loss to a conference rival, while New Mexico has seen it eclipse the number in ten of its last 17 conference contests. I believe the situation, the trends and the numbers all point to the OVER as the sharp wager in this one.
