This is a 10* SCORPION on the New York Islanders.

Carolina enters the season injured and I look for the visitors to take full advantage. John Tavares returns for the Islanders and he's now at full strength after injuring his knee last February which forced him to miss the last 1/4 of the season: "I had a normal offseason, and the injury has been put behind me for a good three months now," Tavares explained last week. I'm really anxious to dive right back into it. The nerves and energy getting ready for the season were there. If I ever lose that feeling, I shouldn't be playing. This is what I love to do. I couldn't be more excited." The Isles were 17th in the league with a 2.63 goals per game average, led by Kyle Okposo's 69 points and Frans Nielsen who had 25 goals. New York also added Mikhail Grabovski in the offseason, who would score 13 goals for the Capitals last year. All of these men will be chomping at the bit to go against Hurricanes goaltender Cam Ward who posted the fifth-worst GAA average (3.06) among goalies with 25 or more starts. The Hurricanes return almost the identical roster, which is bad news for them as they finished 22nd in the league for overall goals and had the NHL's third-worst power play. Also note that the team took a major hit when Jordan Staal broke his right fibula in preseason and he'll be out until at least January. Carolina will also be without the services of top goal scorer Jeff Skinner who suffered a concussion on Sunday. So a team which was already inept at scoring will now have to face a revamped Islanders defense which was boosted by the acquistion of Nick Leddy from Chicago and Johnny Boychuk from Boston. And note that the Isles start a new goaltender tonight in Jaroslav Halak whose 2.25 GAA was the NHL's eighth-best last year. In my humble opinion, this is the very definition of great line value; play on NEW YORK.
