The Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Angels have both been a little inconsistent since the break but Oakland was able to come away with a 2-0 win yesterday. The A's will be looking to pick up another win today behind the arm of Cole Irvin. He has posted a disappointing 7-9 record this season with a 3.62 ERA and 84 strikeouts. in his career against the Angels, he is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA and eight strikeouts.
The Los Angeles Angels need to get their offense going as they have been shut out in two straight games. It won't be easy as they are without the bats of Mike Trout, Jared Walsh, and Anthony Rendon. The Angels will counter with Jaime Barria. It will be his second start of the season and he is 1-0 with a 6.23 ERA.
The Athletics are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Los Angeles and 36-17 in the last 53 meetings. The Angels managed just three hits on Thursday and got seven last night but could not produce a run in either game. Irvin has pitched fairly well this season despite his record.
