Score: 1 - 2
Total: -108/+5 Over
This is a 10* TOTAL OF THE MONTH on the OVER between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Boston Bruins.
REASONING: Carolina enters off a 3-2 loss to the Rangers, while Boston comes in off a 3-2 shootout loss in Philadelphia. These teams have played to some lower-scoring affairs over the last couple of seasons, as the Over/Under is 0-5-1 in the last six in the series. However, we think that the conditions are now finally right for a bit of a shootout and we expect this one to eclispe the posted number as it comes down the stretch. The Hurricanes will be especially desperate here as they’ve gone just 1-3 in their last four outings. Canes’ goaltender Cam Ward is 2-8 with a 2.57 GAA on the road and is 14-18 with a 2.62 GAA lifetime against Boston. So far Carolina ranks in the middle of the pack on both the offensive and defensive ends. Boston can empathize, after an extended stretch of excellence, the team enters this one having lost four of its last five. Offense has been the main issue as well for the Bruins, who will look to break the string of bad play in front of the home town crowd. Note that Boston has seen the total go OVER the number in 7 of its last 11 home games with a total of five or less, while Carolina has seen the total go OVER the number in six of its last nine road games with a total of five or less. We’re expecting each to push the pace from the opening face off until the final horn, play the OVER.
