10* Boston (7:10 ET): There's been a change in pitchers for Boston as Jhoulys Chacin will now start in place of David Price, who isn't yet ready to return from his wrist injury. To say this weekend is "do or die" for the Red Sox would be an understatement. They are 6.5 games back of the Wild Card in the American League entering Friday and will need to jump two teams. Facing the rival Yankees won't be easy. New York has won 11 of the 15 meetings this season, including a four-game sweep in the Bronx back at the start of August. But at the risk of sounding sacreligious, I think the Yankees are overrated right now. Look for Boston to get revenge and stay alive in the playoff hunt.

The Yankees have 92 wins this year and are on track to have home field advantage in the playoffs. But you're kidding yourself if you think this team is better than the Astros. The Yankees have the run differential of an 86-win team right now, so they've overachieved in that regard. They are actually one of four teams to have at least six more victories than their win expectancy. The other three (White Sox, Blue Jays, Brewers) will not be making the playoffs. Meanwhile, despite being 6.5 back in the Wild Card hunt, Boston does have a comparable run differential to the teams they are chasing. You'd think they'd be in a better position than they are heading into the weekend.

Speaking of overachieving, Yankees starter Domingo German is 16-3 (19-4 TSR) despite an ERA of 4.07. His ERA on the road is 5.45, yet he's gone 9-2 in those 13 starts (10-3 TSR). German has only lost once since the All-Star Break and has a 3-0 TSR this year vs. Boston. But he and his team are due to drop one here. I realize Chacin may not be the most attractive option in the Red Sox rotation, but there's a bit of an "unknown factor" going for him tonight as the Yankees haven't seen him since 2016. It's just the third time he's ever faced them. While the Yankees have dominated the season series, I just don't believe they are that much better than the Red Sox. 10* Boston
