10* Vancouver (10:05 ET): I think we're about to find out if the Canucks are the "real deal." They have a +19 goal differential on the season, which is not only the best in the Pacific Division, but also the best in the entire Western Conference! In fact, the only team in the entire league w/ a better goal differential right now is Washington and they are, quite frankly, on a different level than everyone else. Regular clients know how I value scoring differential as a reliable predictor of future outcomes. It's still early in the season, but the Canucks seems to be in good shape.

Of course, the Canucks would gladly trade places w/ a St. Louis team that won the Stanley Cup last June. The Blues' defense of the 1st Cup win in franchise history has started well as they are in first place of the Central Division, something that was never the case last season. However, despite being 9-3-2 overall, the Blues have only outscored their opponents by a single goal margin. There's that goal differential again. They've won four straight - all by one goal - with three of those wins coming in OT. Previous to this streak, they had lost all three games that went past regulation. Funny how that works.

Vancouver already owns a victory over St. Louis this year and it came in a shootout. They would lose their next game, 1-0 at New Jersey, but haven't been beaten in regulation since. They are 5-0-2, scoring 5+ goals in all but one game. The last three were all in California and that swing ended w/ a 5-2 win in San Jose. The Blues have SEVEN come from behind victories already this season, which sure seems like an unsustainable blueprint moving forward. Winger Vladimir Tarasenko has undergone shoulder surgery and could miss the rest of the season. HIs replacement Sammy Blais has five goals (all of them either giving the Blues a lead or tying the game), but I don't think they can count on that production continuing. The Canucks make a statement here! 10* Vancouver
