Schule's MLB AFTERNOON EXECUTIONER - *EARLY START*
Miami vs. Chi Cubs,
07/03/2015 14:20 EDT,
Score: 2 - 1
Money Line: -173 Chi Cubs
This is an 8* play on the Chicago Cubs.
The Cubs return home after sweeping the Mets in New York, and they host the Marlins at Wrigley in a matinee today. The Marlins just won three straight at home over San Francisco, and they did it without Giancarlo Stanton. Miami is due for a let down here on the road, and this looks like a tough matchup for the fish.
Jason Hammel will toe the slab for the Cubs, and he's been solid this season. Hammel (5-3, 2.92 ERA) allowed four runs on six hits over four innings in a loss to the Cardinals at Busch Stadium his last time out. He's been far better at home than he has been on the road, with a record of 1-0 and a 2.20 ERA in six starts at Wrigley. This will be his second start versus Miami this season, and he allowed one run on five hits over 6 2/3 innings in a victory at Miami earlier this season.
The Fish hand the ball to Tom Koehler, who is also having a decent season. Koehler (6-4, 3.66 ERA) allowed two runs on six hits over seven innings in an upset win over Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers his last time out. That was at home, and most of his success has come in Miami, where he's 4-1 with a 1.68 ERA. He's been hit hard on the road though, with a record of 2-3 with a 6.21 ERA.
Miami has lost seven of it's last eight on the road, and they've lost seven of their last 10 when Koehler starts on the road.
