Score: 1 - 2
Money Line: -151 Washington
This is a Free #MLB play on the Washington #Nationals.
The Giants lost three straight at Miami, and it doesn't get any easier as they head to the nation's capital to face the red hot Nats. Washington returns home after taking three of six on the road, and they've won six straight at Nationals Park.
Gio Gonzalez will toe the slab for San Francisco, and he's starting to heat up heading into the All Star break. Gonzalez (5-4, 4.41 ERA) tossed seven scoreless innings in a home win over the Pirates his last time out. He's now 3-1 with a 2.65 ERA in six starts in Washington this season, and he's been better at night than he has been in day games. This will be his first start versus San Francisco this season, but he's 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA in his last three starts against the Giants.
San Francisco will hand the ball to veteran Jake Peavy, who's better days are certainly behind him. The 34 year old hasn't pitched since mid April, sitting out with a sore back. He's likely going to be on a short leash in his first game coming off the DL, and might not make it past the 5th inning even if he's looking good. He didn't look great in his last start against the Nats, surrendering six runs on nine hits (three home runs) over 5 1/3 innings.
The Giants struggling bullpen has an ERA of 7.20 over the last seven games, and they'll be without Santiago Casilla who is resting a dead arm.
